Such a klutz

I just had a wonderful lunch. I had what I'm going to call a green and white salad, and some whole wheat Naan (from Trader Joe's) with roasted red pepper hummus. Mmmm...

The salad is super easy, and probably has been done before, I just named it because I realized it was pretty colorless. I put, romaine lettuce, about 1/2 of an avocado, sugar snap peas, feta cheese and some Parmesan ranch low fat dressing (from Trader Joe's).

It was scrumptious. Though I'm not a huge fan of feta cheese, at least in this salad. It was a bit too sour for my taste. So some of it was left on my plate at the end. But I'll be making it again.

Before I was able to enjoy my lunch, I was trying (and failing miserably) to open the ranch dressing I bought today from Trader Joe's. Well, it had that stupid plastic wrapped over the top of the bottle. I tried to twist it open, but the plastic was too tight. They didn't perforate the plastic to get it started for me, so after fighting with it for a while, I finally used a serrated knife to get the plastic to tear. Then I decided to shake the bottle to get it to mix...but remember how I had tried to twist it open before?? The lid fell off and ranch went all over the cupboards and floor, and some dripped into the utensil drawer.

ARGgggg!!

My girls attacked the ranch mess, and helped to clean up a bit. But I didn't want them to drink it all...and then get sick later. So I did a lot of wiping with paper towels.

Last night I spilt my ice water all over the counter top and stove, and it even had a lid on it. I don't know how I did it...

Baking bread and vomiting

I attempted to make bread the other day. It actually turned out pretty good. After I made the two loaves, I read about breadmaking online, and found out I should have let the dough rise a couple more times. It was kind of heavy and just a touch dry. Though, it looked beautiful. It was perfectly browned all over. It still tasted good, but I have a few kinks to work out.

Later in the week, I planned to cut up a left over loaf up and use it as bread crumbs on some macaroni and cheese. I left the girls alone for about 2.5 hours, and when I came back it was gone. My precious Bacardi jumped on the kitchen table and ate the entire loaf. But left a few crumbs on the table.

She bought herself a stay in her travel crate overnight, because she vomited a couple times during the evening. Once on the carpet a very small amount. And once all over the kitchen floor. Don't worry though she cleaned the kitchen floor up all on her own. It was disgusting.

Changing shifts...

Night shift here I come.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Today was my last day shift, and my last day working with a Senior Nursing student. She took all three of our patients and did most of everything independently (with supervision and with some help here and there). So today was a wonderful day. I love when I have time to help others at work. When I am searching for something to do. I went around asking everyone if they needed help, and since we were a little overstaffed for our usual load, everyone else was doing okay as well.

It's funny though. There are a couple people that I get annoyed with when they ask me to do something. I need to work on that. But I feel like they don't use me when I offer, but near the end of the shift, when I have things to do again, they expect me to drop everything to help them. Also, some of them always seem to be just charting all day, and will hand out tasks to me every time (when it appears that they could definitely get off their butts and do it just as easily as me.) I've learned to always ask them last. ;)

Night shifters work together a bit better, and I seem to have a few more "friends" there. Though there are definitely some of my favorites on days as well.

I just hope I get a full time night position soon...

Back to life

Back to reality.

On Wednesday, bright and early, Jamaal and I left for Vegas. We had a nice relaxing time. We didn't do a ton of crazy shenanigans. We were pretty tame, as far as Vegas goes. But we did enjoy ourselves. This was our way of celebrating our 1 year anniversary of marriage (5 years total) a little early.

We walked a ton. One day, we took the tram down to the far end of the strip to go to the Stratosphere. It was ridiculously expensive to go to the top, and pricey to ride the rides. (which I didn't want to ride anyway). So we just looked around and left.

We ended up walking the entire way back to our hotel, stopping a few times on the way to check out some of the hotels.

Most nights we were back to our room by 2100, but always no later than 2230. We didn't go right to sleep, but just lazed about in our plush hotel suite.

We stayed in a corner suite in the Aria hotel. It is a new hotel, that I think opened in January of this year (but maybe opened at the end of '09). One of my favorite parts was the lobby smelt so wonderful, like vanilla and cinnamon and something else. It was like a beautiful cologne that would work for both sexes. At times it smelt very masculine, and other times it smelt feminine. At any rate, it made me forget about the cigarette and cigar smoke that lurked behind random corners.

We visited most of the hotels on the strip and did a few of the attractions. We spent most of our money on food, which was very expensive. It reiterated the fact that eating out costs a lot of money.

Friday evening, we went and saw Hot Tub Time-Machine in a theater on the strip, and had a good time there. A friend who lives in Vegas said that we were the first people she knew to go see a movie in Vegas. Oh well...she also didn't know where the theater was. (And since there were 5 others in the theater with us, we think no one else knows where the theater is either.) Ha!

To look at some of the few photos we took, check out my web album below...I'm going to try to use Picasa a little more to see if I like it...

Denial

With dishes to get to,
      and laundry unfolded,
       the table a clutter,
      and dinner to make.

I sit on the couch,
     watching shows I recorded,
     sipping on coffee,
     and surfing the net.

Let's examine last week. I worked Wednesday through Saturday, an 8-hour shift followed by three 12-hour shifts. After working, 4 consecutive days in a row, I come home and feel like I deserve to relax. Sunday, Jamaal and I went to my parents house to spend Easter with family. Monday, I felt like I hadn't relaxed, so I did during the morning. I watched a couple of the shows I had recorded from the previous week. Then I looked at the clock, and it was 1400. My DH comes home anytime after 1730...I knew I had to get something done, so I began working on folding clothes and doing laundry.

Of course, I didn't get much done before he got home. By 1800, I had to get ready for Aquarobics and leave before 1815.

After Aquarobics, I ate some food, and sat watching TV for a hour or so, then 2230, I'm tired and ready for bed.

Tuesdays are my mom's day off, and often, I find myself doing errands with her. This particular Tuesday, my mom and I went out to lunch with a family friend. We sat and conversed for 2.5 hours. Afterwards, I went to Top Foods to buy groceries and found myself home at 1730. I didn't spend any time at home during the day.

Wednesday, I returned to work, and after working I make dinner and relax. No real chores get done.

That's my typical week.

I'm ashamed, but I truly feel overwhelmed by housework, work and couple time. Also, I hate cleaning (like a clean and organized place, but hate the actual work.)

So, I've decided I need to get a "chores list" together and stick to it.

I must do something.

That is, however, after we return from Vegas....

Day 31.

I have to admit, I wasn't testing with my ovulation strips most of this cycle. But I figured, since last cycle, I didn't ovulate until day 40/41, that I'll be okay. I still stand by that thought.

On Saturday, Day 29, I woke up nauseated, I was sooo ready to call in sick, because I was sure that I was going to puke. But since I'm working with a student at work, and Saturday was her second day, I decided to grin and bear it.

While my LH test strips continue to be negative, I am noticing increased "wetness." I'm thinking that ovulation day will be coming soon.

:D

Jamaal and I will be going to Vegas soon, and after we booked our flight, I told Jamaal that it would be condoms from here on out, until at the very least, we get to Vegas. I want to be able to have a couple drinks while I'm there, and if I were pregnant, I wouldn't drink (or would feel incredibly guilty) the entire time.

Also, I would prefer my future child to have a birthday anytime between January and October, but not around Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years. And that means conception should be after April 20th (with a due date of January 6th).
